(WDNG) - State troopers say they investigated over 700 traffic accidents during last week’s winter storm.
Alabama Department of Public Safety Sgt. Steve Jarrett says state troopers typically investigate about 84 crashes statewide per day. A total of 731 crashes were investigated by troopers between Jan. 28 and Jan. 31.
Winter weather moved into the state early in the day last Tuesday, and Jarrett says troopers investigated 249 crashes on the first day alone. Seven of those crashes last week were fatal and claimed the lives of nine people.
The total number of statewide car crashes is likely higher, since numbers from the state Department of Public Safety do not reflect any incidents investigated by local law enforcement agencies.
