(WDNG) - A state of emergency has been declared in Alabama due to the threat of a propane gas shortage. Gov. Robert Bentley on Thursday said in a statement “this state of emergency will help Alabamians have an uninterrupted supply of propane gas and other home heating fuels during this period of winter weather.”
The declaration allows Bentley to invoke emergency measure, including Alabama’s price gouging law and suspending regulations that prevent propane tank owners from buying from any company that sells it. Some federal transportation motor carrier laws have also been temporarily lifted due to the state of emergency.
According to Thursday’s statement, that will allow greater flexibility in the delivery of propane to homes, schools and businesses.
