(WDNG) - Unemployment in Alabama dropped slightly in December and remained basically unchanged in Calhoun County. The Alabama Department of Labor on Friday said unemployment in the state dropped from 6.2 percent to 6.1 percent between November 2013 and December 2013.
The unemployment rate in Calhoun County stayed at 6.1 percent. The civilian labor force in the county dropped by about 800 to just more than 51,000 Calhoun County workers, and only 36 fewer unemployment claims were filed.
Unemployment rates in Talladega County also stayed at 6.1 percent, but neighboring St. Clair and Etowah counties saw slight increases in unemployment rates. Cleburne County saw their unemployment rates jump between November and December from 4.9 percent to 5.6 percent.
Wilcox County continues to have the state’s highest unemployment rate, jumping from 13.8 to 14.2 percent, and Shelby County has the lowest unemployment rate of 3.8 percent.
