Montevallo police have arrested two suspects in connection to a shooting that critically injured a 20-year-old woman.
WBRC TV reports that Police have charged Terry Christopher Searcy, 18, of Maylene, and Kevin Valladars Gutierrez, 18, of Alabaster, with one count each of first degree assault and first degree robbery.
Searcy and Gutierrez are accused of shooting Lauren George at the Falcon Manor apartments in Montevallo on Sunday night around 10:30 p.m.. George's fiancé Jonathan Jones said a group of people tried to rob them, and one person fired a handgun several times.
One of the bullets hit George in the head. She was transported to UAB Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
According to a witness statement, the shooting stemmed from an argument between George and the suspects.
Both suspects are in custody of the Shelby County Jail. They each have a $90,000 bond.
The apartments where the shooting happened are less than a mile from the University of Montevallo's campus. George is not a student at UM and the police chief said the shooting was in no way affiliated with the university.
