(WDNG) - 16 people have been convicted of unemployment compensation fraud in Alabama in less than three months. Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Tom Surtees on Wednesday said his office has worked with local District Attorney Offices across the state to prosecute people who submit forged unemployment claims.
More than $68,000 were paid out to claimants that were not eligible for benefits, including more than $7,800 to Joseph Burt, of Talladega, who pleaded guilty earlier this month.
