(WDNG) - A second woman is dead after a three-vehicle crash last week that may have been connected to bitter cold weather. Sgt. Steve Jarrett with the Alabama Department of Public Safety says 80-year-old Catherine McCormick, of Heflin, passed away at UAB Hospital in Birmingham on Sunday.
McCormick was reportedly a passenger involved in a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday that killed 64-year-old Cathy McComb, also of Heflin. Authorities say the vehicle driven by McComb collided with another vehicle on U.S. 78 near the intersection of Alabama 9 on the night of Jan. 8.
A third vehicle later struck the wreckage. It is currently unclear which vehicle the 80-year-old victim was in. Jarrett says a preliminary investigation indicates ice on the road may have been a contributing factor.
