HEFLIN (WDNG) - Cleburne County Road 66 was closed to traffic on Monday evening after reports of a vehicle striking a power pole. Alabama Power spokesperson Michael Sznajderman said a vehicle struck a utility pole on the rural road about four miles northeast of Heflin.
According to Sznajderman, about 40 Alabama Power customers were without power as a result of the vehicle collision. He said power crews de-energized a small service area on Monday evening and added the power outage was only a small, isolated situation.
At least one fire truck was seen in the area along with utility trucks shortly after 5 p.m., although it is unclear which department or utility service was on scene. The road remained closed to traffic by 6:30 p.m.
It is currently unclear how many vehicles were involved in the incident. Efforts to reach Cleburne County Sheriff's officials on Monday evening were unsuccessful.
Sznajderman estimated power could be restored to the area by 10 p.m.
