State troopers say a police officer and a young child were among three people killed in a two-vehicle accident in east Alabama.
Officials say 24-year-old Charity Sloane Brewster was driving a Honda Accord with a 2-year-old passenger when she lost control and left the roadway in Cherokee County.
The driver overcorrected and struck a car driven by 51-year-old Centre Police Officer Jeffrey Hugh Bryant of Piedmont.
The crash killed the officer, the woman and the child.
Friends and relatives of Sloane Brewster are posting tributes to her and her young son Scout on social media. The Centre Police Department posted a tribute to Bryant on its Facebook page.
The wreck happened Friday afternoon about 3 miles north of Gaylesville on Alabama 35.
"He helped out a lot; he was very soft spoken, and a very good person in general. Not just to the officers, but to the people in the city. Anytime anybody needed help, Jeff was there for them," says Chief Kirk Blankenship of The Centre Police Department.
