(WDNG) - Two men have been questioned by authorities about the shooting death of a woman in Weaver. Authorities say 20-year-old Elizabeth Lauren Hartnett was pronounced dead at Regional Medical Center on Thursday from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest she received in Weaver that morning.
Weaver police Lt. Charles Plitt said in a release on the department’s Facebook page that authorities began investigating the incident around 9 a.m. Thursday morning. 22-year-old James Logan Shaw was reportedly detained on the scene and questioned by police. According to Thursday’s release, the victim’s reported boyfriend, 22-year-old John Denver Pegg, was later arrested in Clay County on unrelated outstanding warrants and was also being questioned about Hartnett’s death.
The Anniston Star reports the shooting happened at the Shannon Hills Apartments on McClellan Boulevard. According to the newspaper, police received a 911 call Thursday morning that a woman was lying outside one of the units and bleeding.
Authorities nor media outlets have indicated that the two men are considered suspects in Hartnett’s death. Plitt says the Thursday morning incident is being investigated by Weaver police as a homicide.
