(WDNG) - A woman found with burglar’s tools near vandalized homes is now in jail. Anniston police on Sunday arrested 52-year-old Linda Gay Cole after witnesses called police about a suspicious person running around vacant houses.
Police reports indicate officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Winchester Road shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday. Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said officers made contact with Cole, who told police she was drinking a beer behind a vacant house so nobody on the road would see her.
Police reportedly saw signs of forced entry on the back doors of two vacant houses in the area. Sparks said responding officers found screwdrivers, a pry bar, a flashlight, and other burglar’s tools in the woman’s 1996 Ford Ranger.
Authorities on Tuesday were looking into who owns the vacant houses to determine if any items were missing. Records show Cole was in the Calhoun County Jail on Tuesday morning on a single charge of felony possession of burglar’s tools. Sparks said that more charges against the woman are possible.
