A man on death row in Texas has now been charged with killing a woman in Alabama a decade ago. The Associated Press reports 43-year-old Douglas Tyrone Armstrong was indicted last week on charges of killing 40-year-old Debra Wilson.
A cleaning crew reportedly found Wilson’s dead body in a Dothan motel in 2003 and no arrests were ever made. According to the AP, a grand jury indicted Armstrong after considering DNA reports and other evidence allegedly linking him to Wilson’s slaying.
Armstrong is currently awaiting execution in a Texas prison after a court found him guilty in the death of a man during a 2006 robbery at a south Texas bar. The AP reports an attorney for Armstrong is surprised by the Alabama charge, quoting attorney David Shultz as saying there is “no doubt that Tyrone is wrongfully convicted in Texas.”
