(WDNG) - A 41-year-old Anniston man is behind bars on charges of sexually abusing a child. Authorities on Monday arrested Rafael Henry Hammond on one felony count of sexual abuse of a minor under 12-years-old.
Anniston police Capt. Allen George says the investigation began in August when the victim told her mother she was being inappropriately touched by her stepfather. The abuse allegedly began when the girl was 11-years-old and occurred for about a year.
Police say more charges against Hammond are possible.
WBRC-TV reports Hammond was arrested in Cleburne County during a traffic stop on Monday. Police records indicate he was transferred to the Calhoun County jail on Tuesday, where he is currently being held on a $30,000 bond.
According to police reports, Hammond is expected in court in January.
