ANNISTON (WDNG) - Homelessness and veterans affairs are two topics in the spotlight of the newest Anniston filming endeavor. The Yellowhammer Filmmakers of Northeast Alabama were in Zinn Park on Saturday filming their second short movie “Damaged.”
About 15 volunteer filmmakers spent six cold hours in the park telling the story of two military veterans; a man named Joe who served in Vietnam, and a woman named Janie who served in Iraq.
Film Director Annie Brunson said the short film’s topic of two soldiers battling homelessness and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder dramatically evolved during a November scriptwriting session between her and four other writers.
“We were originally offered a vacant house to use for the shoot,” Brunson said. “We started brainstorming a story around a vacant house, and then we started thinking about homeless.”
Cast and crew for the film included not only the obvious actors and camera operators, but a slew of other contributors ranging from script management to vehicle coordinations. Script contributor and co-star of “Damaged” Mike Ramzy said after Saturday’s filming that he hoped the film sparks awareness of the misery that results from violent military conflicts while providing inspiration through his and the community’s efforts.
“Everybody that’s associated with it [the film] has something that they want to do for their community, for their world, for their family, to make this a better place,” Ramzy said.
Brunson says she expects “Damaged” to premiere sometime in late February, after which Yellowhammer Filmmakers will then begin work on their third project.
