(WDNG) - An Anniston man is arrested for impersonating a police officer. Anniston police on Friday arrested 31-year-old Robert Thomas Blackwell, Jr for allegedly impersonating a peace officer.
Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said an officer saw Blackwell walking near 13th St. and Wilmer Ave. shortly after 8 a.m. Friday morning wearing a badge on the belt of his blue jeans. Sparks said Blackwell was approached by the officer and identified himself as a police officer.
The suspect reportedly refused to comply with orders given by the real police officer and was later arrested. Sparks said the badge found on Blackwell was one worn on police uniforms but was not an official Anniston Police Department badge.
Blackwell was also reportedly found with a set of handcuffs.
Sparks said the suspect had never worked for the Anniston Police Department and was unsure how he acquired the badge. Blackwell was being held in the Calhoun County jail on Monday morning on felony charges of impersonating a peace officer and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest.
