(WDNG) - The EPA is calling the cleanup of the former Chalk Line Mill property a success story in transforming an industrial site. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday used Twitter to highlight their Brownsfield program and used the former Anniston textile mill as an example of the program’s success.
The Brownsfield program awarded $200,000 to the City of Anniston in 2007 for cleanup of lead, PCBs and other toxins. Several hundred tons of contaminated soil were removed from the 14-acre site. That property has since become the Calhoun County Department of Human Resources.
The EPA said in this week’s statement that the project “brings new promise” to The Model City.
