Restrictions on fireworks have been approved by the Moody City Council after one resident described a ‘weekend of horror’ during Independence Day. AL.com reports the Moody City Council on Monday night approved an ordinance detailing when, where and how some fireworks can be used.
Roman candles, bottle rockets and firecrackers can only be purchased inside the Moody city limits between June 15 until July 6 and Dec. 15 until Jan. 3. During those periods, they can only be used until 10 p.m. and through midnight on Independence Day and New Year’s Day. Larger classes of fireworks can only be used with special permits.
According to AL.com, the changes come after a discussion began in July when a Moody resident told city officials that her neighbors began shooting fireworks late into the night for four days leading up to July 4.
The Moody City Council reportedly held several meetings on the subject and compiled the 10-page ordinance that was approved on Monday. Violations of the new Moody ordinance may result in a $500 fine and/or 180 days in jail.
