Birmingham will again be the host city for a minor league version of arena football. The Associated Press reports the Birmingham Outlawz will begin playing in the Magic City next March at the Bill Harris arena.
The team is reportedly one of six in the new X-League. League Commissioner Michael Mink tells the AP “one of the things I’m trying to do is make a 5 in 1 entertainment package that’s taking basketball, hockey, wrestling, taking concerts and football and in one big package.”
The Outlawz is not the first professional football excursion in Birmingham. The Birmingham Americans was a part of the World Football League in 1974. Most recently, the Alabama Steeldogs played in Birmingham for eight seasons before the team folded due to financial reasons in 2007.
