Two people have been indicted for fraudulently claiming disaster benefits following the April 27th storms. Michael James Corbitt of Birmingham and Kandace Proctor of Tarrant face federal charges. They are accused of fraudulantly representing their addresses in their applications for FEMA relief.
This makes seven people who have been charged with fraud connected to disaster benefits from April 27th.
Some of the real storm survivors don't like the idea of people falsely profiting off of so much loss.
"No no, it's not fair for you to claim because if you lived through this storm and come out of it like I did, then you'll know you don't want it to happen to anybody else," Helen Keen says.
You can report fraud through the National Disaster Fraud Hotline 24/7. The number is 1-866-720-5721.
