The Anniston Star reports a wildfire burning in the Shoal Creek District of the Talladega National Forest is not threatening any private property.
More than 150 acres has reportedly been destroyed in the Dugger Mountain Wilderness near Red Mountain and the Rabbittown area. District ranger for the U.S. Forest Service’s Shoal Creek District Karen McKenzie tells The Star that about 25 firefighters are working to contain the blaze which is moving towards forested areas. Another 20 firefighters from New Mexico have reportedly been called into the assist with containing the fire.
According to The Star, nearly 2,000 acres of the Talladega National Forest were destroyed by wildfires last year and an estimated 500 acres have been impacted this year.
