(WDNG) - The Alabama Department of Public Health on Tuesday announced Alabama has been selected as one of five states to participate in a Learning Network on Improving Birth Outcomes in the United States.
The state was picked by the National Governors Association and will assist in developing and implementing key policies and initiatives designed to address preterm births and infant mortality. Gov. Robert Bentley said in a Tuesday statement that he is encouraged that the National Governors Association is recognizing a significant and growing public health challenge.
According to the state Department of Public Health, the learning network will help the selected states share lessons learned and provide an opportunity for participants to learn about coordinating activities across agencies. A total of 13 states have participated in the learning network, with the most recent initiative being the third and final.
Arizona, Nevada, New Jersey and Virginia are also participating in the most recent program.
