(WDNG) - Two bills pre filed in Montgomery last month are taking aim at specific types of crimes. One bill filed by Republican Rep. Bill Poole of Tuscaloosa adds language to an existing law that gives law enforcement the ability to arrest a suspect without a warrant if they are trespassing on any school grounds.
Another bill filed by Republican Rep. Randy Wood of Anniston seeks to provide mandatory minimum sentencing for a defendant who was wearing a bulletproof vest or other ballistic protection when the crime was committed.
According to a copy of Wood’s bill filed last month, a suspect convicted of a felony committed while wearing ballistic armor would be required to serve a minimum 10 year sentence. His bill adds the language to an existing law that provides a mandatory 10-year minimum sentence for felonies where a deadly weapon was used.
Rep. Wood could not be immediately reached for comment on Monday. The 2014 Legislative session is scheduled to begin in January.
