Friday's football game between Munford and Talladega High School was about a lot more than just the rivalry on the field.
Fans on both sides are cheering on a five-year-old girl. Last year Emma Mitchell was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Friday night, Munford's football team warmed up in purple shirts bearing an "E" on the front in Emma's honor.
"We heard about Emma not doing so well and coach was talking to us about it at the beginning of the week," said Munford football player Sean Wadsworth.
Wadsworth and his entire team sported purple shirts, wristbands and socks at school and on the field. Their helmets had an "E" on the back. They even released purple balloons before the game.
Emma's sister Kaitlyn is a freshman at Munford.
"It's been hard. I can't sit here and say that it hasn't because it has," she said.
Kaitlyn said Emma has been in and out of the hospital since she was diagnosed last year.
"We have our days when it's very hard and stuff and today, you know, coming into school and seeing the football players in their purple shirts, it made me happy," Kaitlyn said.
Even rivals took part. Talladega's band and drill team wore ribbons in honor of Emma.
The football team dedicated Friday's game to Emma.
