My guest and topic for Pamela's Place this Friday 11/1/13, is Dale Brown
The ongoing dedication of veterans…through fiction and flight.
“In harms way” is a given for all armed forces personnel. As an Air Force Bombadier/ Navigator, Dale Brown came to know the likelihood of a one way plane ticket whenever his squadron was scrambled. Putting it all on the line was part of the job. Now, as a successful writer, Dale continues to use his pilot skills for others, as a volunteer pilot for AirLifeLine.
When Dale left the military to write fiction, it was no surprise that he wrote with authority about our dedicated military, who, even in supposedly non combat locations, are clearly at risk. Dale understands that the first amendment which stands behind us exists because of the military that stand in front of us.
In the enduring words of Mark Twain, “Fiction is obligated to stick to the possibilities. Truth isn’t.”
So using the cover of action-filled fiction, Dale’s stories depict many military interactions that are never in the news as anything but accidents. So much is swept under the rug, hiding the high-stakes poker that few politicians understand, and even less statesmen know who is really at the table.
“Tigers Claw” is a perfect example of the unknown tensions in the South Pacific, crowded with armaments and egos that put our military to the test every day. If you want to know where fiction collided with fact, ask Dale Brown… he has been to the brink.
Former U.S. Air Force captain Dale Brown is the superstar author of 24 best-selling military-action-aviation adventure novels, Dale's novels are published in 11 languages and distributed to over 70 countries. Worldwide sales of his novels, audio books and computer games exceed 10 million copies.
Dale was born in Buffalo, New York , graduated from Penn State University with a BA in Western European History and received an Air Force commission in 1978. He was a navigator-bombardier in the B-52G Stratofortress heavy bomber and the FB-111A supersonic medium bomber. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Combat Crew Award, the Marksmanship ribbon and completed the U.S. Army Airborne Infantry paratrooper training course.
Dale is a multi-engine and instrument-rated private pilot and can often be found in the skies all across the United States, piloting his own plane as a director and volunteer pilot for AirLifeLine, a non-profit national charitable medical transportation organization who fly needy persons free of charge to receive treatment.
