A Texas-based company says it remains committed to completing two wind turbine projects in Etowah and Cherokee counties despite lawsuits filed to stop the projects. Pioneer Green Energy earlier this year announced they plan to develop the Shinbone Wind Energy Center in Cherokee County and the Noccalula Wind Energy Center in Etowah County.
According to information from the company, the two wind farms would see nearly 50 wind turbines producing almost 100 megawatts of electricity. An economic impact study conducted by Jacksonville State University earlier this year reportedly found the the projects could contribute more than $1 million a year in county tax revenues and provide hundreds of jobs generating millions of dollars in new economic activity.
Five residents in Cherokee County and another 32 residents in Etowah County have filed suit in recent weeks in hopes to stop the projects. AL.com reported on Wednesday that Pioneer Green would not speculate on any party or issue and says it remains committed to the completion of the two projects.
Pioneer Green has reportedly acquired land lease agreements needed to move the project forward and expects work to start on the projects early next year.
