(WDNG) - Testing of a new Marine vehicle at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville is being called a success. Raytheon announced last week they successfully completed an initial round of live-fire testing with new U.S. Marine Corps Light Armored Vehicle Anti-Tank weapon system.
According to a release from the company, the upgraded LAV-AT weapon system is designed to protect reconnaissance and light infantry and to defeat threats at long-range, day or night and in all weather conditions. Vice President of Land Warfare Systems for Raytheon Missile Systems Michelle Lohmeier says “the new turret and thermal systems can perform surveillance and targeting on the move, providing greater situational awareness.”
Massachusetts-based Raytheon was awarded the contract to develop and integrate anti-tank weapon systems on four vehicles in April 2012. Those vehicles will go into development testing later this year and operational testing to follow in late 2014.
