(WDNG) - An Alabama nuclear plant is again generating electricity at full capacity after a nearly month-long maintenance outage. Plant operators at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan announced the plant on Sunday went fully online again after operators took Unit 1 offline at the end of September for scheduled refueling and maintenance.
According to a news release from the plant this week, Farley’s staff of nearly 900 employees were joined on site by more than 800 additional workers from Westinghouse, Williams, Siemens and other partners for the scheduled partial shutdown.
Each of the two units at Plant Farley require new fuel every 18 months. Along with refueling, workers reportedly made upgrades to plant systems and components and performed regular maintenance and testing. Farley unit 2 continued to generate electricity after unit 1 was taken offline on Sept. 29.
