(WDNG) - Authorities are asking for the public’s help in solving the theft of handguns from an Oxford business. Authorities in Oxford report 18 handguns were stolen from the Ace Hardware store on Barry St. around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens on Thursday said police are receiving assistance from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Birmingham Field Office in that case. Owens said that it is not uncommon for the ATF to assist in cases like this and added that gun dealers with a federal firearms license are required by law to notify the ATF about gun thefts.
Authorities say that there were signs of forced entry at the Oxford business but could not provide any more details about the incident.
Anyone with information about the person or persons responsible for the Wednesday night burglary are urged to contact the Oxford Police Department at (256) 831-3121 or their tip line at (256) 835-6122.
