A political adviser from Birmingham says he will be running for a Congressional seat. The Associated Press reports co-founder and president of the Alabama Policy Institute Gary Palmer announced on Thursday that we will run for the Republican nomination in the 6th Congressional District.
According to information from the Alabama Policy Institute, Palmer currently serves on Gov. Robert Bentley’s Alabama Commission on Improving State Government and is a founding director of the State Policy Network, a professional service organization for America’s free market think tanks.
Along with his presidency of the Alabama Policy Institute, Palmer also served on the State Policy Network board of directors for six years and spent two of those years as president. He’s reported as saying he decided to run because he believes he can provide the leadership and solutions needed in Washington.
According to the AP, Palmer so far will be facing orthopedic surgeon Chad Morris of Indian Springs in the June 3 primary. Incumbent Spencer Bachus last month announced he will not seek reelection.
