TALLADEGA (WDNG) - Breast cancer survivors are given a ride around the Talladega Superspeedway in the official Chevy pace cars. Jessica Stroupe with the Chevrolet racing team on Saturday said about 25 breast cancer survivors were getting the opportunity to take a lap around the track.
The Chevrolet Camero pace cars feature a pink paint scheme in recognition of breast cancer awareness month and as part of the Chevrolet Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. Stroupe said that Chevrolet will donate $200 to the American Cancer Society for every lap driven by the cars during the weekend races.
NASCAR drivers Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick were driving the women around in the pace cars, and survivors getting out of the pink cars after their lap had bright smiles on their faces despite the grey skies overhead in Talladega Saturday morning.
Shortly before the pace laps began, I got a chance to speak with driver of the number 31 car about his role in the Chevrolet Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign and what it means for him personally. Burton said "I don't know that you could find someone in the U.S. that hasn't been touched by cancer, either themselves or someone they know."

He said that the partnership between NASCAR and breast cancer awareness is a natural combination. "We battle, we fight, we argue," Burton said, "but when the chips are down this community stands together and try to help."
"This community is second to none," he said.
Burton did more than simply drive the women around. He said he got a chance to speak with some of the breast cancer survivors during the Saturday morning event and said there is inspiration in what these and many other women have gone through.
"Every story is different," he said. "It's a really interesting group of people."
