Gaughan has spent the past 16 years in NASCAR and last year joined Richard Childress Racing with teammate Ty Dillon in the truck series. Gaughan told reporters in Talladega on Friday that he will keep race with the same number after making the move to the Nationwide series. Gaughan said "it's been kind of an important number."
Gaughan made his first racing appearance in the Camping World Truck Series in 1997. In his 13 year career, Gaughan has racked up nine victories, seven pole awards, 58 top-10 finishes in 170 starts and won the K&N Pro Series West championship title in 2000 and 2001.
