(WDNG) - A mobile home fire in the Saks area last week is being investigated as a possible arson. Anniston police Capt. Allen George on Wednesday said an officer on patrol Friday morning noticed smoke in the Saks area sometime before 10 a.m. He said the officer pulled up to a mobile home on the 100 block of Joni Lee Ln. and saw it on fire.
George said firefighters from the Anniston fire department were able to contain the fire and a preliminary investigation may indicate the fire was intentionally set. According to George, utility service to the mobile home was disconnected and a neighbor told police that nobody had lived there for several years. George said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Authorities believe the fire started in a bedroom but did not have any more information on Wednesday. A representative for the Anniston Fire Department with knowledge of the fire or investigation was not immediately available on Wednesday.
According to police reports, any suspects behind Friday’s mobile home fire in Saks could face felony second-degree arson charges.
