(WDNG) - An areawide film competition has been launched that invites residents to tell their stories of The Model City. Anniston businessman Dr. Tim Brunson announced this week the launch of the City of Storytellers competition, an event designed to improve a “not-too-stellar city image” by featuring Anniston locations, businesses and people in short films.
Two divisions have been set up for the competition that will separate high school-aged contestants and younger from college-aged contestants and older. $4,000 has been set aside for winners that will be decided by both a panel of judges and also by popular vote.
Along with improving the image of Anniston, Brunson said in an email this week that the City of Storytellers competition will also be used as a tool to inspire, mentor and develop students enrolled in the public and private schools in The Model City.
Anniston’s mayor and city council on Tuesday approved funding for the competition, and Councilmember Millie Harris said in a release this week “this is the type of educational innovation that will ultimately save Anniston’s students.”
The City of Storytellers competition will accept video submissions Nov. 15 through Jan. 15 and judging is scheduled to last until mid-February. Brunson is the head of BuyersUSA Consulting and also a member of WDNG Media, the group that facilitates online content for WDNG-AM radio in Anniston.
The City of Anniston and the Yellowhammer Filmmakers of Northeast Alabama are also partners in the competition.
