A Montgomery County judge has set a trial date concerning to Alabama Accountability Act. The Associated Press reports Montgomery County Circuit Judge Gene Reese has scheduled the lawsuit filed by the Alabama Education Association for March 17.
The Alabama Accountability Act was passed by the Legislature in February and will provide tax credits to parents of children in failing public schools. The AEA has been pursuing legal action since before Gov. Robert Bentley ever signed it into law, saying the Legislature violated its own rules when the law was passed.
According to the AP, the Legislature will already be halfway through the 2014 regular session when the judge will be considering the case. The Virginia-based Institute for Justice on Thursday said it plans to intervene in the case on behalf of parents using school choice for their children.
