The implementation of the federal health care law is raising a lot of questions for people but a new program is helping connect Alabamians with someone who can address their concerns.
The program is called Enroll Alabama.
It allows a real person to sit right with you and answer any questions that you have and help you find the right insurance.
AIDS Alabama is one of the three agencies taking part in Enroll Alabama.
They have actually partnered with agencies around the state so they can reach more people.
Since the healthcare act took effect the Better Business Bureau reports there are already scammers trying to take advantage of people.
People will go door to door trying to sell insurance and even claim they have free insurance. They just need you to hand over your personal information.
The government and insurance companies will not go door to door asking for your personal information.
Having a program like enroll alabama helps weed out those scammers.
"We're going to try to let people know that this is a viable option for them and how they can enroll. We won't choose their plans but we'll be able to sit next to them and help them choose what they should do," Lauren Banks with AIDS Alabama said.
This is a free program.
Open enrollment for the new healthcare lasts until March 31st.
After that, you can enroll until August if you have a life changing event such as the birth of a child or getting married.
