Parts of the Guntersville levee walking trail will be closed for about a week as the Tennessee Valley Authority insures the levee meets industry safety standards, according to TVA officials.
The levee is being examined as part of a "health check" update for all dams in the TVA system Crews will be drilling and using electronic equipment to survey rock and soil at and near the levee structure during the inspection.
Sections of the trail will be blocked off near TVA work zones and trail users will be able to see equipment being used in the evaluations. The trail is 2 miles long and is located near Highway 227.
The trail is expected to reopen by Oct. 14.
