A bicycle race in Glencoe will benefit a hometown hero and other wounded warriors.
This year, Josh Wetzel, an Army specialist who lost both of his legs in Afghanistan, will be the beneficiary of the Stinger Metric Century Ride.
Wetzel is a Glencoe native with a newborn daughter, Harper, and plans to leave the Army and attend Auburn University. The money will also go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The ride has three courses, with the longest one totaling 62 miles.
It's the second time for this event in Glencoe, with last year's race benefitting a young cancer patient.
"We thought about Josh, and it was overwhelming that we try to help him because we knew he was coming out of the Army and wanted to get started at Auburn, and family life. And we thought we'd do the best we could to help give him a jump start," Jeff Barber of Stinger Metric said.
The event kicks off Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at Glencoe High School. For more information about the ride, please visit http://www.stingermetricride.com/.
