The family of a Cleburne County teenager missing since last week don’t believe she went back to her native Guatemala. The Anniston Star reports 16-year-old Marta Ramirez Mendez was last seen at her family’s home in Hollis Crossroads shortly after 4 a.m. on Sept. 30.
The girl’s sister reportedly knew something was wrong when Marta didn’t return home from school the next day. According to The Star, the girl’s family doesn’t know if she ran away or was forced to leave. An unidentified man has reportedly called the family saying Marta was traveling with a man and was most recently in Maryland.
Police tell the newspaper that it’s possible the girl has gone back to Guatemala where much of her family still lives, but the family tells The Star that she had no money to get there.
16-year-old Marta Ramirez Mended is described as a hispanic female with black hair and brown eyes. If you have information concerning the whereabouts of 16-year-old Marta Mendez, please call the Heflin Police Department at (256) 463-2291.
