The personnel director in Etowah County was arrested Monday morning and charged with identity theft.
Jennifer Taylor is being held the Etowah County Detention Center without bond.
"Jennifer Ann Taylor, 38, of Gadsden, was arrested this morning, and is charged with one count of identity theft and one count of computer tampering, both are Class C felonies," investigator Josh Morgan with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office said.
Two weeks after investigators with the district attorney's office and the sheriff's office opened their investigation, they arrested Taylor Monday morning.
They had literally taken a search warrant across the street from their offices to Taylor's office in the Etowah County Courthouse and seized records and computers.
Etowah County District Attorney Jimmie Harp says Taylor ran a criminal background check on someone who was not a county employee and had not applied for a county job.
County CEO Patrick Sims says Taylor is on paid administrative leave.
Harp and Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin both say this was an isolated incident and do not believe any other employees or victims were involved.
