Republicans vying for a spot as Alabama’s governor will have a long road if they plan to catch up with Gov. Robert Bentley’s fundraising. The Associated Press reports Bentley has raised nearly $2 million since fundraising began in June.
He has reportedly raised more than $1,200 in campaign donations for every $1 received by his Republican primary opponent Stacy Lee George. George is a former Morgan County Commissioner that has reportedly raised nearly $1,600. The two will meet on June 3 for the Republican primary.
According to the AP, Bentley raised more than $547,000 in September alone, including big donations from several road-building and construction companies.
So far, there are no Democratic opponents running against Bentley, who is seeking a second term as Alabama governor.
