(WDNG) - The state’s WIC program will have enough funds to operate through the month. The Alabama Department of Public Health on Wednesday announced they have received additional funds from the federal government for the state’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs.
According to a release, the Alabama WIC Program will continue to see participants and issue benefits through October, but participants will be limited to only a single month’s worth of food benefits instead of the normal three-month period.
AL.com reports about 140,000 Alabamians are served each month by the program that helps pay for food and other necessities for families with limited incomes. Wednesday’s release says the state Department of Public Health will continue to reassess funding based upon further developments with the federal budget.
