Alabama’s first openly gay legislator has married her longtime partner in Massachusetts. AL.com reports Democratic Rep. Patricia Todd wed Jennifer Clarke on Sept. 14 in Provincetown, Massachusetts, with Clarke’s daughter officiating the ceremony.
According to the website, the couple met eight years ago when Clarke clicked on an online ad for the social side of a political website. After dating for a year, Clarke reportedly moved to Alabama after Todd was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006.
The 58-year-old state representative was born in Kentucky and earned her master’s degree in public administration from UAB in 1994. Todd currently represents District 54 in downtown Birmingham and was reelected to a second term in 2010 when she ran unopposed for that office.
