An accident involving four 18-wheelers shut down part of I-20 East for more than 12 hours.
Authorities re-opened one lane of the interstate around 6 p.m. but traffic continued to move slowly past the accident site.
Troopers say the crash may have been a result of a chain reaction between the four trucks.
One person, a truck driver, was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.
The wreck happened around 4:10 a.m. Monday on I-20 East near mile marker 202, between the Heflin and Ranburne exits in Cleburne County. Two of the 18-wheelers overturned in the crash.
One of the trailers reportedly spilled cooking oil, which made a muddy mess across one lane.
Michael Frank, a truck driver who has been stuck in the traffic for hours, says he saw a Life Saver helicopter and four ambulances respond to the scene. There is no word yet on the conditions of the drivers involved. One person was evacuated by helicopter.
At one point, both the east- and westbound lanes of I-20 were shut down, but the westbound lane has been reopened and is running smoothly.
Drivers heading east toward Atlanta on I-20 should take exit 199 onto Highway 9 to Highway 46 as a detour to get back onto I-20 East at mile marker 205.
ALDOT and the EPA are among other official agencies that responded to the scene.
