Banned books are now available from one area library. The Gadsden Times reports hundreds of books pulled from library shelves will once again be available for “Banned Books Week” at the Gadsden Public Library.
The books will reportedly be taken from behind yellow caution tape and made available to readers beginning on Monday. Library Director Amanda Jackson tells The Times that she was a bit disappointed there wasn't more community response to books including “Harry Potter,” “The Hunger Games,” and “The Color Purple” being pulled from shelves.
According to The Times, Gadsden State University’s library director says 400 books were removed from school shelves but could be checked out by visitors who gave reasons why they wanted the banned books, including “The Diary of Anne Frank.”
