Firefighters spray water on an east Anniston house fire Monday morning (Photo: M. Dean Smith)
(WDNG) - Officials don’t believe anyone was hurt during a Monday morning house fire in Anniston. Anniston Fire Capt. Katherine Meherg said they received a call about a house fire around 8 a.m. Monday morning on the 800 block of E. 22nd Street just east of Oakmont Ave.
She said a passerby made the call and the fire was “fully involved” when firefighters arrived on the scene. Around 8:15 Monday morning, brown smoke could be seen drifting across The Model City. By 8:30, the roof of the house appeared heavily damaged and a small flame could still be seen burning over the front porch.
Meherg said three Anniston Fire pumper trucks were initially dispatched to the fire and two remained on scene after authorities deemed the fire was under control. Neighbors in the area believe the house was not occupied and officials on scene don’t believe there were any injuries.
