(WDNG) - Interstate 20 in Cleburne County is nearly completely shut down Monday morning due to an accident involving five tractor trailers. The Alabama Department of Transportation reports large quantities of oil and fuel were dumped onto the roadway early Monday morning.
According to AL.com, the accident occurred near mile marker 202 and has shut down all eastbound traffic. One lane of westbound traffic is reportedly open. Authorities are reporting traffic is being routed through Heflin to avoid the accident scene.
Independent reports from downtown Heflin say traffic is heavy on Highway 78 and described as bumper to bumper with semi trucks. There is no definitive word on when Interstate 20 in Cleburne County will be reopened, but the ALDOT website at 6:30 a.m. says cleanup should be complete around 1 p.m.
Drivers are being urged to use caution and expect long delays.
