Jurors heard testimony Tuesday in the penalty phase of a convicted cop killer.
Monday, a jury in Lee County convicted Joshua Russell of capital murder. Just over two years ago, authorities say Russell shot Anniston officer Justin Sollohub in the head after a foot chase.
Russell told police he ran from Sollohub because the gun he carried was stolen and there were outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was captured after an hours-long manhunt in the neighborhood where Sollohub was found shot.
The jurors can recommend death by lethal injection or life in prison without parole but Calhoun Co. Circuit Judge Brian Howell will make the final recommendation.
The trial for Russell was moved from Calhoun County to Opelika due to pre-trial publicity.
