Wednesday, Jacksonville remembered a local victim of 9/11.
Major Dwayne Williams was killed at the Pentagon on 9/11 and Wednesday, his loved ones and hometown honored him and all victims of the attacks.
His mother, Pearl Williams, presented a wreath at his memorial in Jacksonville. Although Williams is buried at Arlington National Cemetary, a special memorial was built for him here in Alabama.
His mother tells us it's a time to remember not only those who were lost that day, but those who have been lost in the two wars since.
"9/11 was the beginning of our war on terror, if you think about it. And the fact that we have so many guys still dying, you know, for us to have our freedoms, 9/11 affected everyone in this country," Williams said.
The keynote speaker at today's ceremony was Lt. Col. David Schmitt, Lt. Col. David Schmitt,Munitions Commander at the Anniston Army Depot. He was across the street from the Pentagon on 9/11 and remembered having to tell a husband that his wife wouldn't be coming home from work that day.
