SHELBY COUNTY, Alabama - A Briarwood Christian School student was killed in a weekend traffic crash in Shelby County.
The accident happened about 11 p.m. Saturday on Highway 36 in Chelsea, said Shelby County Sheriff's Capt. Ken Burchfield. He identified the victim as 17-year-old Joseph Christopher Honea.
Authorities said Honea was traveling alone when his vehicle left the roadway. There were no witnesses to the crash, he said.
Honea was pronounced dead on the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
