The investigation of the death of a 3-year-old Altoona child appears to be an accident, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
The young boy was found in a vehicle, on Sunday, September 1, outside of a residence located on Highway 278 West, Altoona. The boy and his mother were inside the house taking a nap.
When the mother woke up she was unable to find her son inside the residence, prompting her to look outside. The 3 year old child had left the house on his own and got into an unlocked vehicle. The mother immediately called 9-1-1 when she found her son unresponsive.
The boy died on Friday, September 6, at a Birmingham hospital. An autopsy is being performed today.
