Alabama got its biggest news yet with its 2014 recruiting class this week, as five-star offensive tackle Cameron Robinson of West Monroe (La.) committed to the Crimson Tide on Wednesday. If Friday night was any indication, Robinson will have plenty of talent for which to block when he arrives in Tuscaloosa.
Not only is T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry and company already on campus, but Bo Scarbrough and Desherrius Flowers are on the way.
Scarbrough, the 2014 Tide commit who opened the season with a 235-yard, three-touchdown performance two weeks ago, ran for 110 yards on 12 carries in IMG Academy's 30-15 win over North Miami Beach on Friday, averaging more than nine yards per carry. Flowers, a 2015 Alabama commitment, also had a big night, rushing for 168 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in Vigor's 24-6 win over LeFlore.
Of course, the Crimson Tide is hoping the additions of Robinson and Monroe-area receiver Cameron Sims to their 2014 class will help them with not only Monroe-Neville safety Laurence "Hootie" Jones, but also with the top running back prospect in the nation, New Orleans-St. Augustine's Leonard Fournette, who ran for 138 yards and two scores in a 41-26 win over McDonogh 35 on Friday.
Sims had a big night of his own, catching seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in Ouachita Parish's 49-0 victory over Richwood. Robinson's West Monroe team didn't fare so well, falling 28-27 in overtime to Madison Central (Miss.)
Two other Alabama commitments who didn't have memorable nights this week: David Cornwell, who was sacked nine times in Norman (Okla.) North's 38-31 loss to Norman on Thursday, and Galena Park (Texas) North Shore linebacker Zach Whitley, who suffered what was thought to be a concussion and missed the second half of his team's 24-20 win over Manvel.
